Dry Eye: Causes and Remedies

What causes Dry Eye?

Dry eye is a common thing that happens to even healthy people. Tears are necessary to moisturize the eyes and cleanse any foreign objects. When the eye cannot maintain a healthy layer of tears, dry eyes begin to appear. There are some other causes for dry eye to appear such as,

● Exposure to the sun● Wearing contact lenses
● Allergy medications
● Dry environment
● Heat or chemical burns

It is an uncomfortable feeling for your eyes and may also cause problems with your vision. Dry eye occurs when there is no balance between the production of tears and the tears’ drainage. A dry eye can be normally diagnosed with an eye examination conducted under medical supervision. The doctor can determine if you have dry eyes and advice you on what treatment you need.

 

What Does Dry Eye Feel Like?

A dry eye is usually very uncomfortable for the person since it can have an effect on the daily activities of the individual as well. They may experience the following symptoms of dry eye,

● Blurry vision
● Eyes are watery
● Irritated, scratching, or burning eyes.

This can often have an effect on one eye or both eyes can get affected. There is usually a gritty feeling that happens to your eyes and it usually lasts for a few hours, a few weeks or sometimes it may have an effect permanently on your eyes.

There is a temporary dry eye and chronic dry eye. Temporary dry eye is when the symptoms do not last long and usually go away with treatment while chronic dry eye will last for days, weeks, or even months.
